How to Keep New Year Resolutions

Whenever the New Year rolls around, we are busy thinking about the ways that we are going to change. When you hear people talking about happy new year 2018, a lot of the time they are thinking about how they are going to change their lives or their habits in the coming years. But the fact is that even though we are in this happy New Year 2018 mindset, it does not mean that we are going to stay in this mindset for long. Now let us talk about why so many of these resolutions end up going to waste.

The reason why so many find they are not able to keep their resolutions from the start of the year is because we are relying on motivation and inspiration. And that is just not how life works. You will say that you were motivated when it was new years and you felt like you were in the mindset where you could create resolutions. And you may even have stuck to the resolutions that you set for yourself. But let us be real. If you are going to stay motivated all the time, you are a very rare person.

No one can find themselves in that mindset for long. You are just not going to want to stay in this mindset as your crutch. You cannot think that you are going to be motivated all the time. It is just not going to work for you, no matter what you are thinking right now. How do we know this? Because we are all in such a position at one time or another. We have all been there. And we want you to know that if you think being motivated is the key, then you are very wrong about how all this works.

What you need in your situation is not motivation. You need discipline. That is the only thing that is going to help you if you want to keep your resolutions. Yes, you needed some inspiration to come up with the resolution itself. But if you are thinking that the idea of a new year is what is going to keep you motivated, then you are not going to stay in that position for very long. You will stay motivated for a few weeks or maybe even a month. But then you are going to go back to your old ways as you will feel like you are just not motivated anymore.

And there is nothing wrong with that. We cannot be in a permanent state of being motivated. But what you have to know is that you are going to need to develop your discipline. That is the only thing that is going to help you in this case. So if you want things to work out, and you are serious about managing those resolutions that you are making, then you are going to want to make sure that you find a way to be disciplined about what you want to achieve.
